| Dragon Luke with custom painted custom head. |
This was a very fun custom, and it only took two days! The original figure was a Hasbro Luke Skywalker in Bespin Fatigues
from 1996. I grabbed mine from eBay. The base body is a GI Joe from the late '90s, and I cut the peg to the right hand so
that it would be easily removed. The head is from a Jedi Luke from 1998. Ultimately, only the clothes and boots are from the
original figure.
I made the blaster months ago from a Mauser machine pistol set and an existing DL-44 blaster from a Han Solo figure. I cut
off the scope and flash hider of Han's blaster and glued them onto the Mauser. I've included a picture of this blaster with
my full sized resin replica of Luke's blaster.
The lightsaber that came with the Bespin Luke had the blade glued in! I don't know why, so I had to use another lightsaber.
Luckily, Ben had an old Obi-Wan that came with Luke's lightsaber. I went all out to make the lightsaber as accurate as possible.
I've also included a picture of my full sized replica of Luke's ESB lightsaber made by Jeff Parks of Parksabers.com. I'd still
like to make the buttons on each side, like the real thing.
The belt, pouches, and holster was made from the same vinyl material that was used for Boba Fett's belt. I wish I could take
credit for this awesome belt, but Ben is responsible for making it a reality. The only thing I made were the belt strap, the
leg strap for the holster. Ben made the holster and strap, both side pouches, the droid caller pouch, three-button pouch,
and the belt buckle. I dry brushed the buckle black to give it a worn look.
I painted the boots that were light grey a more tan color. I'd really like to dye the jacket and pants a similar color. My
first attempt failed, but I might do it again. If anyone has a suggestion, I'd really appreciate it. Check out all the pictures.
UPDATE
(10-25-06): Today marks an historic day in the life of my custom Luke Skywalker. I received both the Dragon body that I ordered
and a custom painted, custom head sculpt (that I won off of eBay) of Mark Hamill as he appeared in Irvin Kershner's Star Wars,
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Oh yeah. I is such an improvement over the Luke that I have had for the last few months.
Not only does this Bespin Luke kick ass, in my humble opinion, but is a great addition to my new Bespin Han that arrived yesterday.
Luke
stands a t almost exactly 12", whereas Han stand at about 12.5" which makes him considerably taller, like most Sideshow figures.
My Bespin Luke also matches Sideshow's Jedi Luke in height. The hands are also removable which makes it very easy to replicate
the hand that was so visiously removed by his father.
I'm thinking about maybe, may-be making an new holster that better
matches Han's DL-44 holster.
Well, that's it for now.
Update (1-28-07): Several months ago, shortly after
finishing my ANH Han Solo, Ben was kind enough to make a new belt, holster and all the little pouches for Luke here. The blaster
fits the holster like a glove; the lightsaber hook is the same as the old belt. It holds the lightsaber hilt perfectly. All
of the buttons, or snaps... rivets? (whatever they are) were made from stick pin heads. The strap on the holster has a small
slit and so that a pinhead can lock it in place. It works much better than the velcro did on the old holster.
Update (2-2-07): New picture of Luke's Version 2 belt. Far superior to the former custom.
